Without much hesitation, I recently accepted a position in Morocco! For the geographically challenged folks, it is located in Northwest Africa, NOT Europe (that’s Monaco).
I had contemplated a variety of “location independent” options over the past year and at one point, my ever-so-tolerant husband and I considered quitting our jobs without a plan and skipping off to Southeast Asia to see what we could see. To our family’s relief, we found a slightly more secure alternative to our original plan of aimless wandering.
My current place of employment (the adult job I accepted after grad school) had an opening in their office in Rabat and while it included a substantial pay cut (I guess that means I’m taking a demotion??) it is a chosen step – not an obligation or a decision that I felt compelled to make on behalf of others, but something I wanted.
Undoubtedly, my ridiculous travel adventures will take on a more Moroccan theme as I explore my new home away from home. I’m sure I’ll find ways to get lost along the way in other locals as well. With 4 suitcases, a 6 lb. dog, and an atrociously large iMAC (that my husband insisted we bring as a carry-on) in tow, I’m ready for the uncertainty that lies ahead.
